Cognitive Load
π Reading β Moderate β«β«βͺThe amount and complexity of the language in the game. This excludes rules booklets. |
Sniper Elite: The Board Game has reading on some components, including items and player abilities. |
β Maths β Moderate β«β«βͺNumeracy and calculations players must handle in the game, from counting dice results to calculating odds. |
Sniper Elite: The Board Game requires players to count spaces for movement and shots, and for counting hidden movement. These calculations can get complex after several turns, and there is a level of probability maths for working out hidden objectives and played items. The Sniper would benefit from basic probability skills, as they take shots using the shot bag and the number of tokens in the bag affects how likely to shot is to hit. |
π§ Memory β High β«β«β«Recalling information, like remembering previous actions or what cards someone may have. |
Sniper Elite: The Board Game requires the Defenders to remember the actions of the Sniper. The Snipers movements are completely hidden throughout the game and clues are given as to their actions. There is no memory reliance for the Sniper, as to them the game state is always visible. They are also allowed to check their shot bag to remind themselves of the tokens they have available, before taking a shot. Important rules are on components and player reference cards. |
βοΈ Strategy β Moderate β«β«βͺThinking ahead, planning and long-term game goals. |
There is an advantage for players to plan their turns in advance, though itβs not required, and it is often possible to recover from strategic missteps for both sides. Tracking down the Sniper and protecting objective points requires a level of strategy from the Defenders. Playing as the Sniper requires a level of strategy for planning movements and reacting to the Defenders actions. |
π Puzzle Solving β Moderate β«β«βͺCritical thinking, deduction and general knowledge. |
Sniper Elite: The Board Game requires no outside knowledge to play. For the Defenders this is a deduction game with a tactical element. The βpuzzleβ is deciphering where the Sniper is located through the clues they provide. |
Motor & Communication
π― Dexterity β Moderate β«β«βͺFine movement like drawing, positioning tiles, stacking components, or lining things up. |
Sniper Elite: The Board Game requires placing tokens in specific areas on boards, with some degree of accuracy. Playing as the Sniper requires you to write and draw with a drywipe pen on a board with accuracy. |
π Mobility β Moderate β«β«βͺGeneral motion like physical actions and how often pieces need to be handled or moved. |
Sniper Elite: The Board Game requires moving your game pieces, including miniatures and cubes. As the Sniper you need to write on a board with one hand while holding it in the other, however the box lid could be used as a βscreenβ to hide the board and allow you to write with it on the table. The Sniper is also required to hold cards in hand and gesture to the pieces on the board. |
β³ Speed β None βͺβͺβͺAre there timed aspect of the game or a need for quick reactions. |
Sniper Elite: The Board Game has no timed elements or requirements for quick reactions. The game is played in turns at your own pace. |
βπβπ¨ Social Cues β Low β«βͺβͺDo players need to 'readβ people; like deciphering intentions or social deduction. |
Sniper Elite: The Board Game requires some interpretation of social cues. It would be entirely possible to play the game without knowing your opponents, but knowing the Sniper might be beneficial in predicting their strategy. |
π¬ Communication β High β«β«β«How much communication there is with other players through teamplay or discussion. |
Sniper Elite: The Board Game requires direct communication with other players throughout the game, such as discussing strategy with other defenders, or the Sniper communicating clues to their actions. |
Content & Components
π± Content & Themes β High β«β«β«Content warnings for the game, including violence, profanity and sensitive topics. |
Violence: HighSniper Elite: The Board Game is a game which includes gun violence and weapons, as both sides can shoot and wound pieces in the game. The Deluxe Upgrade Kit features a mini depicting an injury to the groin. There are dogs in the game, on the side of the defenders, but it is not possible to wound the dogs. Sensitive Themes: Moderate β«β«βͺSniper Elite: The Board Game is set between Axis and Allied forces in WW2. While never explicitly named, the defenders are of German theme and the Iron Cross is commonly used across their pieces. The Deluxe Upgrade Kit features a non-playable miniature of a defender commander being shot in the groin. Tone: SeriousThe tone of the game handles the context with realism, using historical elements and realistic weapons. |
π¨ Visual Clarity β Moderate β«β«βͺHow clear the visuals in the game are generally, covering iconography and game-critical visuals, looking at readability, contrast and colour blindness. |
||
Sniper Elite: The Board Game has different sections which are communicated through different coloured and patterned borders. Objectives are identified through colour and number, and the only components that use colour alone are the defender cubes and coloured bases for the miniatures. Contrast can be low in some places, which can make areas of the board hard to read. The least clear components are the objective cards which are designed to mimic playing cards. The numbers and suits correspond to the numbers and coloured location on the board but do not match beyond the number. For example; the clubs suit may represent objectives in the yellow sector, but there is no yellow on the objective card or clubs icon on the board. |
π€ Text Clarity β Moderate β«β«βͺHow clear the text in the game is generally, including size, font, spacing, and contrast. |
Sniper Elite: The Board Game uses good contrast text in clear sans-serif fonts in all key areas, but can be small in places. The least clear text is on the objective cards where the text is an all-caps, handwritten style font. However, this text is only for flavour and serves no mechanical purpose. |
π Component Size β Moderate β«β«βͺHow big are the components in comparison to standard dice, cards and meeples. |
|||
Sniper Elite: The Board Game components are generally standard, with 32mm miniatures and standard poker sized playing card sizes. Sniper Elite: The Board Game has a deluxe expansion which provides miniatures for some of the punchboard tokens, and weighted clay tokens to replace punchboard tokens in the shot bag. |
πͺ Table Space β Moderate β«β«βͺHow much table space is needed for the game. |
Sniper Elite: The Board Game features a large game board and individual pieces for each player. The board with four players would fit around a table approximately 100x100cm. |
